A Little Off the Ends
A Mother’s Day mood, a new bob, and three spring recipes worth putting in your rotation.
Good Sunday and Happy Mother’s Day, friends!
I’ll let this week’s Sunday post (linked below) do the heavy lifting, but I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s ease into the day, celebrate the moms (in every form), and get to the good stuff.
Let It Be Sunday, 516!
This week we discuss the universal springtime urge to chop your hair off, the magic of bragging about your mom to a near-stranger with scissors, and how a slightly-too-short bob can still leave you full of gratitude. It’s a Mother’s Day love letter to girlhood, craft projects, and the alternate timelines where we’d just hang out with our moms as friends. Plus: peanut butter mousse, pickleball alter egos, and why we might all need to start sharpening our knives before dinner.

This Week on the Blog:
Our friend Toby Rose is raising three independent, sandwich-stacking, brownie-baking, laundry-learning kids, and this week she’s sharing Five Joy the Baker Recipes Kids Can Make On Their Own. It’s parenting gold. If you’ve got little ones ready to take on lunch duty, breakfast duty, or just want to be crowned Sleepover Royalty, this post has you covered (with extra chocolate croissant French toast on the side).
Fresh from the Archives:
• It’s my birthday month, which means it’s time for my favorite annual tradition: spiraling over what kind of cake to make myself. A few years ago, I went full vintage with Distinguished Guest Birthday Cake. More recently, I brought a Funfetti Pound Cake to a Good Friday crawfish boil, and the kids thought it was iconic. But what’s the move this year? Something nostalgic? Something floral? Something wildly over-the-top?
I’m deep in the archives doing the research (read: cake mood-boarding). Please leave your suggestions in the comments below! Please!
• If your garden basil is bolting faster than your to-do list, this is the sandwich to make: Pesto Butter Grilled Cheese. We swirl that surplus pesto into softened butter and slather it generously on the outside of bread before crisping it up into golden, melty perfection. It’s grilled cheese, but she summers in Tuscany, you know?
• Chocolate Chip Cookie Dutch Baby is the quickest weekend breakfast that still feels like an event. It’s part giant pancake, part chocolate chip cookie, all whipped up in one skillet and puffed to golden perfection in under 20 minutes. Ready, set, go go go!
Thanks so much for being here, friends. Have a great day!

I’m about to be 44 and for the first time I’m suddenly wanting a little French wavy bob with bangs. My hair story has always been, within you is two wolves, one wants mermaid hair, the other wants a pixie and the crow hopping around pulling their tails wants bangs. Gonna be wild if the crow and short hair wolf win 😂
My vote is for either a coconut cake with coconut frosting and lemon curd filling, or a chocolate cake with mounds of marshmallow meringue frosting and chocolate filling.
