Question for Joy, but also for the community. I love the idea of bringing test batch cinnamon rolls to my neighbors, and I am a longtime baker and sharer with my coworkers and my co-volunteers, etc. I find that more and more frequently, people feel frustrated with shared baked goods, like I’m actively trying to undermine their health goals. A friend of mine referred to a cake as me ‘just passing the poison on to everybody else’. I don’t know how to be a ‘community baker’ anymore, I don’t want anyone to feel beholden to consuming something they feel like they don’t want in their lives. I don’t feel this way about baked goods, I don’t think cinnamon rolls are poison, but I definitely bake less because I’m not trying to make anyone feel bad/worse.

Is this just a personal issue?

Someone would only have to refer to my baked goods as poison ONCE before they never see one of my chocolate chip cookies again. And it sounds like they’d prefer it that way… yikes. I do understand that everyone has their own dietary restrictions and preferences and I definitely try to suss those out before getting generous with the baked goods. A few months back I brought cookies to a neighbor and he lamented that I was going to make him gain weight. I simply asked if he prefer I not bring him baked goods? Because I can stop if this is interfering with whatever he’s got going on! (He didn’t want me to stop he just wanted to rib me a bit, I guess). Just feel it out. But anyone who calls your food poison you can cross off your list. 😊

Do you by any chance have a local buy nothing group on facebook that you are or could be a member of? I have been trying to participate more in mine, and I feel like offers of food (trader joes freezer snacks the kids no longer like, abundant produce) go over well. I have not seen anyone offer, say, a half dozen just baked cinnamon rolls, but I am positive they would be really well received!

My wife made your buttery crisp rhubarb & "deconstructed" the crumble. While it wasn't "camera-ready", it was SPECTACULAR! 😋
