Summer always feels impossibly long until one day, somehow, it’s over? Certainly not because the heat has subsided. In Texas? Let’s not get carried away. It’s because the kiddos are back in school, the morning traffic shifts, and… mid-August seems entirely too early to return to school, but so goes it in Bellville. *Back in my day* I had the back-to-school scaries all Labor Day weekend as God intended.

This is also the time of year when I hear the siren call of back-to-school supplies, despite having no actual school to buy supplies for. I become the sort who believes she needs to completely restock her office drawer with favorite pens, sticky notes, and a fresh pair of scissors. A new notebook? It’s bound to happen.

Somehow I resisted the school supply aisle at H-E-B this afternoon.
